Manchester Terrier trained to check for toads in luggage and so on.

A dog has been trained to prevent cane toads entering Groote Eylandt in the Gulf of Carpenteria.  The Manchester Terrier, known as 'Aussie', is the first line of defence on Groote Eylandt.  It has been trained to search for cane toads in luggage travelling from the mainland.

Cane toads have never been found on the island and the Anindilyakwa Land and Sea Rangers want to keep it that way.  Aussie will not let any of the pests slip through.  The rangers say they are looking at training another dog for the island.
