Abstract

Let’s start with some facts: the average house mouse (Mus musculus domesticus) is about 8cm long, with a tail of about the same length.
It is usually brown (although it can also be white, grey or black) with short hair and a paler belly.
It weighs approximately 20g, and has a high-pitched squeak.
In the wild life-expectancy is approximately one year, but pet mice have been known to live for longer – up to five years.
