When you’re looking for a new furry best friend, you probably want to
make sure that it will be around for a long time. Getting a dog is an
emotional and financial investment, so the longer the lifespan, the
better. There are some dogs that are known to have a shorter average
life expectancy, and though we’re not saying that they shouldn’t be
adopted, it’s always helpful to be aware of the full picture.
We consulted our dog breeds topic and found the dog breeds (purebred and crossbreeds) with the shortest average life expectancy. They are ranked in descending order (for those with the same average life expectancy, we ordered them at random). Of course, life expectancy depends on the dog (some may live much longer or shorter than expected), but these numbers are the average. The data is originally from the American Kennel Club.
