Can Instagram save pit bulls in America? | Mashable

Each year, American dog shelters take in far more pit bulls than any other breed. Most are abandoned; some are rescued from homes where they've been forced to fight.

Still, no other breed of dog is vilified quite as strongly as pit bulls in the United States.

New York-based photographer Sophie Gamand is hoping to reduce the stigma against the breed with a photo series called "Flower Power."

We met up with her at Animal Haven, a no-kill shelter in New York City, to talk about her project, her activism and her hopes for a pro-pit bull nation.
