Jane Goodall Update

Status Update
By The Jane Goodall Institute South Africa
Good morning folks from a rather damp and overcast sanctuary. We have let the chimps out and they are playing in the trees. All the rain is making the sanctuary very green and we are also seeing lots of new infant impala on the farm.

Yester Joao had a visit from the lady who looked after him thru the war and when he was in the zoo I Mozambique, she also brought the chimps a big bag of shelled peanuts so the chips are all very happy.
The chimps have been enjoying the cooler conditions but I’m sure they would like to see some sun so that they can bask for a bit.
Watching Charles and his group yesterday it was good to see Charles and Martha spending time together and grooming and at times Marco came and spent time with the two adults. Tamu and Mowgli had a great spell of tag and really had a ball of fun charging about the place.
Zac and Joao’s group continue to eat breakfast as a group and then disperse to do their own thing. Cozy was very brave yesterday and climbed up into one of the taller trees and sat up and surveyed his kingdom for quite some time. Tony is slowly becoming a little terror and just loves to run about poking and slapping the others and making a huge game. If things get to hectic for him he will simply go sit with Cozy or Zac for protection.
The adult group have settled down again now that Jingas estrus is almost finished and they all enjoy their lettuce and cabbage they have been getting. We also got a few cloves of garlic and Amadeus and Nicky got stuck into the cloves with lots of grunts and squeaks….needless to say the following morning the aroma in the nigh rooms was something to experience.

We continue to get great support from our fruit and vegetable suppliers here in Nelspruit with supplies coming in from Fruit and Veg City, Makro, Halls Fruit Stall, Kudu Farms and MechAgri who give us bananas. (Phillip Cronje-Sanctuary Manager)
