A dog that was feared dead after it was swept away in a weekend avalanche that killed its owner showed up four days later at the Montana motel where its owners had stayed the night before going backcountry skiing.

Search and rescue team member Bill Whittle said he was "positive" that the Welsh corgi -- named Ole -- had been buried in Saturday's avalanche.

"The avalanche guys were up there on Monday investigating and they were looking for the dog too and never sere looking for the dog too and never seen any signs," he said.

  • Miracle dog found alive 4 days after owner killed in avalanche

A Welsh corgi who captured hearts across Southwest Montana after people learned that it returned to a Cooke City motel room after a fatal avalanche claimed its owner's life may have had an even more miraculous journey than previously thought.

Ole was feared dead. But those fears were put to rest after he appeared at the Alpine Motel in Cooke City Wednesday around noon.

But on Friday, details of Ole's incredible journey turned out to be even more incredible.

Officials with the Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center said in their daily report that they believe Ole survived for four days, buried three feet deep, in the avalanche that killed his owner, David Gaillard.

The GNFAC released video that shows a hole with fur in it where they believe Ole was buried. They believe he slowly clawed himself out of the hole, surfaced then traveled several miles through rough terrain and following a trail back to the motel where his owners had stayed.

Robert Weinstein was the first to spot the dog right outside the room where David Gaillard and his wife, Kerry, had stayed.

The news report claims Ole the Corgi must have trekked back several miles to the hotel where the family was staying.  Amazing tale of survival against all the odds and then finding his surviving humans.
