"The attitude to animals is that you can do anything with them that you want", Femke of the Jakarta Animal Aid Network says. She argues that it is not only the monkeys being exploited, but also the street orphans using them to scrape a living. But this business brings food to the table in a city rife with poverty. "It's a tradition", one handler shrugs.
