Yunnan snub-nosed monkey's corpse found in Diqing for first time
A dead body of Yunnan snub-nosed monkey was found on the upstream of Zhubalong River, Diqing Nature Reserve Zone, Yunnan.
It is the first time to find a monkey corpse in the Baiba Snow Mountain Nature Reserve during the past 30 years since 1982, introduced by Ti Bu, a local researcher.
Eight snub-nosed monkeys live within the nature reserve of Diqin prefecture, however, local people and researchers have never found a complete monkey corpse before.
The corpse, male, entirely floats on the river. It weighs above 80 kilograms. Its age is estimated to be above 15 years old.
Related researcher presumes the monkey may die of unnatural reasons.
Under normal conditions, Yunnan snub-nosed monkey bury other monkey corpses in a hidden tomb, and neither local people nor researchers know the location of the tomb.
The found monkey corpse which is not buried in a tomb may be drowned in the river water, dying of illness when crossing over the river, or of battling for throne with a new monkey king, Ti Bu said.
