We have Europe to thank for the modern dog, according to a new study that pinpoints the origin of dog domestication to a population of ancient wolves living in Europe between 18,800 and 32,100 years ago. This new research, based on the genetics of ancient dogs, challenges previous genetic studies that placed the origin of dogs in the Middle East or Asia.
